1950年代の池辺陽の伝統論において，最も多く主張された内容は＜使い方や構造の合理性に基づいた伝統の応用＞であった。これに次ぐのが＜形や感覚による伝統把握への批判＞，＜伝統建築成立の背景・プロセス理解の重視＞であり，これらの主張は相互に関連する内容となっていた。一方，＜伝統規格再検討の提案＞は1957年以降に集中して見られた。これは池辺が1958年にモデュールに関する論文を発表したことが影響していると考えられる。

The most asserted content in the 1950s was about application of tradition based on rationality of usage and structure, followed by criticism of grasping tradition by shape and sense, and emphasis on understanding the background and process of traditional architecture. These assertions are interconnected. On the other hand, proposal for reconsidering traditional modules was concentrated since 1957. It can be said that this was influenced by publication of the paper on modules in 1958.
